Puffing Pretty On Porcelain Hand Pipes From Stonedware

Sometimes smoking weed is about getting absolutely ripped out of your gourd in an effort to travel to the 11th dimension. Other times it’s about casually puffing on a moderate amount of green to help get through the day.

Stonedware’s beautiful little hand pipes fall into this second category of casual elegance and daily utility more than it does the former, with pipes that nestle into the palm of your hand and hold just enough weed to get you functionally stoned.

As such, Stonedware is a very apt name for such tools; they are equally about getting stoned as they are functioning as a home “ware” you use with regularity.

Craftsmanship of Comfort

These pipes are, first and foremost, pieces of functional geometric art. Constructed with fine porcelain, hand-cast, hand-painted, and made locally in Portland, Oregon, by artist Ariel Zimman, these are probably some of the most elegantly understated smoking devices on the market.

Available in a variety of chill colors ranging from black to pink to turquoise to white with 22k gold outlines, there is sure to be a low-key color palette that harmonizes with your individual vibes.

Some sides of the Stonedware pipes are left raw porcelain, creating a unique juxtaposition aesthetic and increasing tactile grip on the pipe.

Goldilocks Sized Pipes

Our Stonedware hand pipe was actually our first “pipe” that we invested in after spending a long time with just a Pax vaporizer and joints. The idea was to get something that didn’t use a battery/require electrical heating but also allowed us to portion out smaller amounts of grass than you get in a full-gram joint, for example.

These porcelain pipes are just the perfect size for a reasonably sized wake-and-bake or a mid-day pick-me-up. The bowls are hand cut, but if I had to guess, I’d say ours holds 1/4th to 1/3rd of a gram’s worth of plant material as ground in a Santa Cruz Shredder.

No, if you’re looking to blast off deep into space, these probably aren’t for you. You’re better off with a big ole fashioned water pipe if reaching new peaks is your quest.

If, however, you’re new to cannabis or just a very casual consumer, or you are just looking for a tool in your belt for bite-sized sessions, then these pipes are absolutely perfect in terms of the quantity they hold and how many puffs you can get out of a single bowls worth of herb.

Pleasantly Ergonomic

Not only do these pipes look great sitting on your side table or bathroom counter they’re actually quite comfortable to hold in your hand as well.

One may assume that due to their geometric nature, they might poke or feel uncomfortable, but that’s not the case, as it would appear all the edges have been placed strategically in places to aid in palm-ability rather than detract from it.

With my medium-sized male hands, I can easily palm the pipe without fear of dropping it and can easily reach the choke hole with my middle finger.

I think the placement of the choke should work for just about any hand size because the overall width, at least of my pipe, is narrow enough to allow for easy gripping.

Marrying Form & Function

On the whole Stonedware pipes are a beautiful harmony of both form and function as they are as pleasant to stare upon as they are to smoke out of.

This act of perfectly balancing these two fundamental design elements is not easy to obtain, let alone one person doing it by hand, and for that, we applaud what Ariel has accomplished here.

So, whether you’re new to smoking and looking for a very simple, very reasonably sized pipe, or you’re a seasoned veteran looking for the right tool to accomplish a specific goal in measured hits, you should go check out the Stonedware Company for yourself and see if anything tickles your fancy!

It’s worth mentioning that colors change over time. Before publishing, I checked the site and couldn’t find this white and gold option, but there were some others that I didn’t recall seeing before, like an all-black pipe with gold splatter, for example, that are equally impressive.
