Getting Tangled in Huckleberry Web’s Sticky CBD Embrace

Mark these words: High CBD strains and more balanced THC-to-CBD genetics are the way of the future.

Scoff if you must, but I’m telling you, once you’ve experienced a well-balanced CBD strain, you’ll become a believer too.

The medical market has been wise to this for decades, understanding and relying on the therapeutic benefits of cannabis genetics that have been cultivated with an emphasis on maximizing the amount of healing cannabinoids present vs just focusing on total THC content.

Don’t get me wrong, I like to blast off to the moon once and a while. Whether that’s passing a moonrock blunt around with friends or simply dusting my bowl with a pinch of kief, gripping and ripping is a hell of a rush, no doubt.

But in 2024 I stumbled upon my first well-cultivated, flavorful, balanced, high CBD strain in Focus North’s Guava CBD, which I repeatedly purchased (an ounce in total) until it was all gone.

What started as an experiment has honestly become my preferred way of daytime toking and losing that outlet was a real bummer when Guava CBD disappeared from shelves.

…Until I walked back into Oregrown a month or so later to discover a new high-CBD strain on the menu called Huckleberry Web.

This beauty was cultivated by none other than Deep Creek Gardens, notorious for cultivating some of the best, gassiest (shoutout Supa Durban!), most highly sought flower in the state of Oregon.

huckleberry web strain overview

Huckleberry Web is a cross of Oregon Huckleberry, one of Dynasty Seeds bookend cultivars (can someone run that Huckleberry Diesel pleeeeease) and Charlottes Web, perhaps one of the most famous therapeutic medical strains to have ever existed.

Combining genetics from one of the plants greatest medicinal providers with some of the juiciest yet punchiest local Oregon strains in Huckleberry is a stroke of genius, pure and simple.

Afterall, aren’t the best medicines the one you look forward to taking?

Appearance: Who Knew CBD Could Have Such Bag Appeal

For those of you high-CBD flower wizards out there this might be a big “uh yeah, duh” but for someone who’s been smoking a lot of candy hype and crusty kush the last few years the size, shape, and density of this Huckleberry Web, was truly something to behold.

deep creek huckleberry web

From a distance Huckleberry Web is a solid light green but upon closer inspection there are little cracks of a very dark publish hue, almost monochromatic, adding a grainy effect that encapsulates these squat medium sized nugs.

These aren’t your overly crispy dried out CBD boogers that you see lingering on dispo shelves for 8+ months after harvest. These are plump, terpene-rich little Gushers that stick to your fingers when you break them up.

Nothing has managed to gum-up my Santa Cruz Shredder like this in a while, which is saying something.

The moisture content and density means a little bit of Huckleberry Web goes a long way when packing a joint. You often need less than you think.

That’s because this particular sample was cultivated by the expert, award-winning hands at Deep Creek Gardens out of Clackamas.

Perfectly trimmed, healthy looking and smelling little bundles of 1:2 flower that holds its own, even under the bright lights of industry competition.

Dynasty Genetics Huckleberry Web has won first place in the 2018 Dope Cup for “Best CBD flower”, first place in the 2019 Cultivation Classic for the “supplemental light grown” category, and “Best CBD” in the most recent 2024 Northwest Leaf Bowl

Are these the trichome monsters you bring to the party to impress everyone with your taste in herbal jewelry? Probably not.

But are these dense little terpene sponges that you will want keep on you at all times, ready to protect you from the onslaught of stress that is the insanity of this modern world?

Most definitely. Huckleberry Web is up to the task!

Smell: Unlike Any High CBD Flower You’ve Smelled Before

Wowsa. WOWSA. Where to start…

That Guava CBD I was addicted to a few months ago was a treasure to the shnoz, with bright fresh pink guava notes abounding.

This Huckleberry Web however dials up the juicy berry fruit to 11/10, making it a true delight to behold and if you were blindfolded, something you’d never guess was a high CBD strain.

The bright berry sweetness emanating from the Oregon Huckleberry is what I dream of whenever I see Blueberry cannabis strains on a menu that more often than not come in a little on the underwhelming side.

Dynasty Seeds has drawn from some of the best genetics to have existed to create Oregon Huckleberry, including Morning Glory (Shiva Skunk x Afghan/Hawaiian) and Oregon Blueberry strains on the Huckleberry side of things.

There is a lot of sweetness to behold in Huckleberry Web.

There is berry fruit, and there is a dash of that Northern Lights/Skunk twain as well that creates not only a potent aroma but also a flavor that just doesn’t quit.

This undeniable huckleberry jam notes that smell distilled and kind of punch you in the nostrils before expanding with a deeper more woodsy smell brought on by Charlotte’s Web.

Charlotte’s Web’s coniferous nature marries perfectly with the Huckleberry genetics (the huckleberry plant is naturally found at elevation among conifers) resulting in a bold piney/cedary complexity to what is an otherwise toast-worthy berry bomb.

This is the “gassiest” high CBD flower I’ve smoked to date, with something of a tape adhesive and printer paper smell like you get in shipping stores, that like a mole on the face of a perfectly symmetrical face, making for a one-of-a-kind beauty.

If you’ve ever held the belief that high CBD strains don’t taste good then prepare to have your worldview blown up with Huckleberry Web.

Dry pulling a freshly ground half gram I get very clear sweet huckleberry top notes, like straight jam but instead of a lingering sweetness the experience is closed out with a piney earthy crescendo from what I’m presuming are these Charlottes Web genetics.

Sensation: Shattering Your CBD Flower Preconceptions

I generally take the side of “THC percentage does matter but it’s not THE determining factor in measuring flower quality” and isn’t something I generally pay close attention to.

The effects presented by Huckleberry Web do a lot to bolster the argument some make that THC percentage or “potency” matter at all because it’s just as fulfilling of a high as much “stronger” strains out there.

Potency simply means something powerful enough to influence or make an impression upon.

In this regard Huckleberry Web is a very potent strain because it does make quite a relaxing impression and very much influences both thinking and feeling when smoked.

It’s just a different kind of high than what you might be presuming whilst skimming this overly verbose review.

Smoking a quality 1:2 (THC:CBD) strain like this Huckleberry Web creates the kind of high that I suspect a lot of people are actually craving when they think about weed.

That’s to say, I think a lot, if not most, people want a kind of high that doesn’t cause them to go comatose or blast off to the moon but which simply reduces the gravity of their pre-existing mood.

This is a mythical type of high that certainly feels strong in the body in how it turns down your stress level to negligible levels but is also still a treat to smoke flavorwise.

Huckleberry Web’s ability to eviscerate stress is unmatched. The anxiety strewn across your mental beach is washed away by the gently lapping waves of bluishish-purplish tides of huckleberry.

If you’re a tightly-wound individual, particularly in social settings, and you are still seeking a go-to counterbalance to that energy then I suggest adding Huckleberry Web to your shortlist of strains to try (if you can find them).

Unlike some CBD flower I’ve smoked, this goes down exceptionally smooth.

No coughing, no pepper bite, just sweet berry smoothness, like a good-tasting cough syrup, coating your mouth with flavor you didn’t think possible in a high CBD strain.

The effects of Huckleberry Web permeate your entire body, flooding your endocannabinoid system with a whopping 16.03% weight of anxiety-eating cannabidiol.

During the initial saturation process it felt like I was smoking a higher THC strain than I actually was because it is noticeable as it hits, not like you might expect a 7.79% THC strain to hit.

While Huckleberry Web excels at being a trusty companion, there to suck up life’s stressors without impeding on your cognition, it also has some really cool therapeutic effects, as high CBD strains generally do.

The first very obvious effect I’ve noticed with Huckleberry Web is it is a hell of an appetite stimulant.

While some claim that CBD does not stimulate appetite, there is no denying the snack monster that arises after medicating with some Huckleberry Web.

If it’s not the high CBD maybe it’s the Huckleberry half of the equation, that 7.79% THC content punching above its weight in terms of triggering a need to consume calories.

The second effect I’ve noticed is the blunting of muscular pain. While I’m blessed to not currently be managing chronic pain I do consider myself a moderately serious albeit casual weightlifter.

I’m not a hardcore bodybuilder nor am I a competitive powerlifter but I certainly get after it 4-5 days out of the week, finding meditation in the struggle and continually pushing myself to attain new goals.

One result of this hobby though is the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) that accompany particularly strenuous workouts or workouts after longer periods of rest.

My skeleton was killing me after one particularly thorough leg session (Bulgarian split squats, lunches, Romanian deadlifts, and calf machine supersets for dessert) until on the 3rd day of struggling to get off the shitter when I smoked a gram of Huckleberry Web and found relief.

While not explicitly medical applications, as a tall skinny casual weightlifter I find both of these characteristics valuable as they A) help me consume enough calories to recover and grow new muscle and B) help blunt some of the annoying lingering soreness that accompanies intense resistance training.

Huckleberry Web is thus valuable to me on multiple levels, both pleasure and pain relief, making it a plant I’d love to have in my rotation 24/7 if I could.

Conclusion: Straight Up Mountain Magic

I may be a late comer to the balanced strain game but boy am I here for it after experiencing some absolutely lovely flower in Huckleberry Web (and Guava CBD before it).

Whatever the ratio may be I’ve become a believer that as with many other things in life the “less is more” adage can be applied to cannabis as well, particularly when it comes to THC totals.

I’m not saying this is the end of high THC strains, because I like those too, but with the amount of creative genius lurking out there between breeders and growers, there is no reason to pigeon hole yourself into just one type of experience.

balanced strains meme

Huckleberry Web is a modern classic and I’m sure will continue to be popped and enjoyed by both patient and hobbyist alike because it offers only positives and it does so with glee.

You don’t always need the fastest car or the biggest house or the drippiest watch to be happy. In fact, what you need more than anything is less stress in your life and that’s where Huckleberry Web has got your back.

If you’ve never tried a high CBD strain then keep your eyes open for this. No, it’s not the same as the CBD-dominant strains that only feature < 2% THC, it’s an entirely different experience at 7.79% THC to 16.03% CBD.

Only bummer here is the word is spreading about how great Huckleberry Web is given all the awards its taken home now, so when it does drop it seems to sell out fast, which is great, because in the end, this is some real deal plant medicine.

What do you think? Have you tried Huckleberry Web? If so, what did YOU think? Got any other sweet 1:1, 2:1, or 1:2 type strains you’d recommend we check out?
