How Re:Stash Achieved Stash Jar Perfection

From cannabis use eclipsing alcohol use in terms of daily consumers to unstoppable wave of national legalization, the cannabis industry continues to march onwards, growing by leaps and bounds each year.

More people are enjoying the benefits of legal cannabis than ever before (yay!) and breeders and cultivators are responding to this growing demand in turn by producing some of the most beautiful and potent bud to have ever existed.

While we can debate the actual value of record-setting THC levels there is no denying that there is more “top shelf flower” available for the average Joe and Jane than ever before in American history.

As a life-long cannabis lover I can vividly remember getting a legacy market bud whose quality was so sad that today I wouldn’t use it for anything other than oil infusion, if that. It’s like the whole world of weed has transformed to grainy low fidelity to 4K high definition. It feels revolutionary.

Splurging on things like fair-trade single-origin coffee beans, organic grass-fed beef, or locally produced wines and Oregon-grown living soil dankness are some of the few pleasures many younger professionals are able to partake in with traditional avenues of consumerism like new cars and houses have become unaffordable to all but the wealthy.

Being able to literally savor the sweeter things in life, whether it be food or cannabis flower, is one of the few accessible avenues of pleasure and one I am thankful for on the daily, hence this blogs mantra of being Blessed2Blaze©.

Eating organic and choosing organic cannabis are not only accessible sources of pleasure but are also healthier than eating overly processed foods or consuming weed of questionable origins. Investing in natural, sustainable, regenerative sources of nourishment is one of the best investments you can make on a budget.

One of the most important aspects of enjoying organic plants, whether they be broccoli florets or big fat frosty nugs of herb, is procuring  and consuming them as fresh as possible.

Since we can’t eat our entire grocery haul in one day, nor are most of us smoking our entire half-ounce of bud the day we buy it, storage then becomes priority #1 in holding onto that freshness as long as possible to preserve the quality we spend our hard earned money on.

After years of experimentation I’ve found that Re:Stash jars are the best option for keeping my precious lil nuggies protected from terpene-destroying light and oxygen. This is why you’ll see a Re:Stash jar in pretty much every strain review that I do, for good reason.

Below I’ll highlight some of the primary reasons why I love my Re:Stash jar (that I paid for with my own money, twice) and why I highly recommend them to any serious flower aficionados.

What Are Re:Stash Jars?

Re:Stash is a stash jar company based out of Bend, Oregon who make silicon sleeved and child-resistant lids for standard sized glass mason jars that help preserve flower integrity by protecting it from both light and oxygen, all while reducing single-use plastic usage as the child-resistant lid makes them legally compliant and dispensary-friendly.

I’ve always associated “good” cannabis with hippies, counter-culture, and peace movements around the world. Hippy stoners often smoke organic home-grown weed and years of buying top shelf recreational flower in multiple states have led me to the conclusion that the very best weed is that which is grown in a natural way, meaning in organic living soil without the addition of pesticides or herbicides.

All-organic living soil craft cannabis takes more work to grow well as opposed to scaled systems featuring automation and synthetic nutrients and pesticides. Extra labor always translates to slightly higher prices for consumers but the differences in quality between corporate mass-produced mids and premium small-farm living soil craft is well worth the additional markup IMO.

While the craft/organic movement has been thriving I am regularly dismayed at the over-reliance on single used plastics, from cultivation to retail. I’m regularly shocked at the amount of plastic waste I see littered across sidewalks, parks, and nature paths across the country in the form of plastic canisters and tubes.

Not only is this litter unsightly, but a majority of it is cheap virgin plastic, which means it’s going to just sit there forever until someone picks it up. We need to do better, as an industry and as consumers, to throttle this single-use plastic addiction and growing canna-litter problem.

Thankfully, companies like Re:Stash are providing a much needed alternative reality wherein we’re able to better preserve our cannabis quality (vs plastic pop-tops which are not air-tight) while simultaneously preventing more plastic waste from entering into our ecosystem.

The “three Rs” mantra of a responsible child of mother earth is to 1) reduce, 2) re-use, and 3) recycle, in that order. Re:Stash hits on all three of these because by using a glass jar you reduce the amount of plastic demand, you re-use your storage vessel indefinitely, and they feature up-cycled lids.

Re:Stash could totally add themselves as a 4th “R” as in “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle with Re:Stash”!

By reducing our consumption we throttle the supply side (less demand = less supply = less manufacturing of virgin plastics). By re-using containers we limit our total consumption footprint to just one item. By recycling we can sometimes prevent some plastics from entering landfills, although the recycling industry is still a long way from “perfect”.

Re:Stash’s approach to reducing, reusing, and recycling is ingenious in the way they leverage a proven technology in the humble glass mason jar (yes, the same ones grandma trusted to preserve her precious pickled beets in). By combining mason jars with the addition of a light-blocking silicone sleeve and child-resistant lid they have made perhaps the ultimate stash jar for eco-minimalists.

I’ve been using two of these jars for over 5 years now and they’ve been absolute tanks, shuttling some of the dankest flower known to man from dispensary and to friends’ houses in complete safety.

The net result has been constant access to terp-rich smoke whenever I want with the added benefit of eliminating pounds of plastic waste that I would have otherwise acquired hadn’t I brought my Re:Stash jars with me when re-upping at Oregon’s deli-style dispensaries.

These jars work great for home grown flower as well and make much better long-term storage solutions than cheap mylar bags found in other pre-packaged states.

So if you’ve already done a bit of research and are just looking for a recommendation then just go buy yourself a jar or two now without fear, they’re great and you’ll be happy with your purchase, I promise.

If Re:Stash jars are new to you and you still need some convincing then read on, I’ll do my best to make you a believer!

Benefits of Using Mason Jar-based Re:Stash

The mantra of keeping things as simple as possible to avoid unnecessary overcomplication for maximum reliability is not a new one.

While I’m sure the CAD work, chemistry, and sourcing that goes on behind the scenes at Re:Stash is intense, the core idea behind the brand of leveraging a proven technology for the base of your product, in this case the humble mason jar, and then adapting that foundation for a specific use case such as cannabis preservation and transportation, is sheer genius.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

-Leonardo DeVinci

The humble mason jar itself was invented by a tinsmith from New Jersey named John Landis Mason in 1858. During the 160+ years since farmers and grandmas alike have been trusting them to protect perishables, whether they be grains and grapes to grass and ganja, from the effects of destructive oxidation.

Mason jars make perfect receptacles for cannabis storage for the same reasons they are such great pickling containers. The lids create airtight seals reliably, blocking oxygen from entering the container and preventing skunky terpy smells from escaping.

Since the inside walls are smooth glass there is also minimal friction between trichome-dense nugs and the container, which help keep your trichomes intact and your bud looking and smoking as it should.

Glass is also super easy to clean with a quick wipe with alcohol and water and since mason jars have existed for so long you can find them in pretty much any size you need. Re:Stash has solutions for 4, 8, 12, and 16oz jars, which should cover most stoners storage needs.

Re:Stash addressed the only two weaknesses mason jars had as viable cannabis storage vessels by adding a grippy silicone koozie sleeve to the outside to block UV light (to prevent degradation of contents) and a child-resistant lid (to comply with state cannabis packaging laws).

Let’s dig a little deeper into these simple yet genius improvements Re:Stash has made on the humble mason jar to make it the ultimate cannabis storage container.

child resistant stash jar lid for mason jars

Child Resistant Lids for Deli-Friendly Dispensary Usage

One of the big reasons why eco-conscious folk haven’t been bringing in their own reusable containers already when they buy whole flower at deli-style dispensaries is because these states overly regulate cannabis (more than actual poisons like twist-cap alcohol for example ) and thus require child-resistant lids for all THC-containing products.

We wouldn’t want little Timmy accidentally eating that unactivated whole flower you picked up from the dispensary last weekend would we!

Unlike most tamper-resistant packaging, Re:Stash is actually super easy to open with a simple quick light push downwards to get the large threading into its tracks and for the lids to screw off with what I’d estimate to be about a quick quarter turn, while retaining CPSC safety certification status.

This makes opening and closing these patented lids a breeze, whether your mobility is limited or you just have multiple jars and like having quick, easy access. The large physical size of the lids, chonky grip notches and rough surface textures help make this easy access possible. Oh, they use recycled materials in their construction too!

Embodying the 3R lifestyle (say it with me.. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!) mindset, Re:Stash makes these lids themselves in Portland Oregon with an FDA-approved polypropylene filled with flax fiber, which I dig the aesthetic of as well.

I personally use my jars monthly, sometimes more than that, for the last 5+ years of shuttling weed from dispensaries all around Oregon, from the coast to Mt. Hood, usually tossing them in my glovebox for safekeeping until I get home. They’ve performed flawless the whole time with no noticeable wear or damage.

I’ve actually received compliments on them as well, sitting on my little session try at home, so there’s that added benefit of self-expression which is fun.

Why The Hallowed Gram Recommends Re:Stash

This blog can be verbose as fuck because I’m generally writing in a stoned stream-of-consciousness type of way. If the above was too much and you’ve scrolled down here for the TL;DR here it is:

Re:Stash are great cannabis storage options because they:

  • Reduce the demand for plastic canisters
  • Reduce the amount of singe-use plastic produced
  • Help alleviate the litter/trash problem
  • Reducing use of plastic is better than trying to recycle it
  • Protect and preserve cannabis for maximum freshness and enjoyability
  • Locally produced
  • CPSC-compliant child-resistant lids for safety
  • Silicon koozie sleeves block UV-light, increase grippiness, and protects glass
  • Large sized lids make for easy access
  • All components can easily be washed
  • Silicone koozie allows for dispensary labels to easily be removed/saved
  • They just look cool

Whether you shop deli-style dispensaries like me or you’re a home grower and looking for trade-sized jars to preserve and share your crop with your friends, I encourage you to give Re:Stash a sniff, their simplicity and durability make for a delightful experience.

Lastly, please remember to respect mother earth, respect your bud, and respect yourself by dropping the single use canisters and joining the Re:Stash club of responsible stoners. It’s worth it, I promise.

Together we can eliminate the destructive dominance of single-use plastic and the waste it generates in the cannabis industry, creating a cleaner, greener world for future generations of stoners and non-stoners alike!
