The Goofiez strain is one I’ve long wanted to sample in quality, as it seems to have enjoyed strong retail staying power, at least in Oregon.
I’ve seen it on shelves in dispensaries, and I’ve drooled over amazing HD pictures of it on Instagram.
Goofiez has always been an intriguing proposition as a fun new flavor to try but it has somehow eluded my lungs, ….until now!

Anything from Compound Genetics is worth a try, in my opinion; the same goes for the Blue Lobster hotness from Chris’s new Cipher Genetics.
Goofiez is a genetic banger with famous parent strains in potent Jokerz #31 and flavorful Apples & Bananas.
Apples & Bananas is likely one of Compound’s most successful cultivars, both for its widespread availability (I’ve seen it on menus across OR, WA, CO, and NV) and for its presumed sales as a Cookies staple.
Jokerz #31 hit the scene here hard in 2022 after winning a first-place award at the Oregon Leaf Bowl and has been around ever since, with its reputation as a big hitter well established.
The fact that Jokerz is a cross between the ‘god of hype’ White Runtz and the ‘queen of mean’ Jet Fuel Gelato probably has something to do with its popularity.
Apples & Bananas is a highly approachable cultivar that wins hearts with its consistently soft, supple, sweet breakfast-fruit aroma.
Goofiez is the cultivar you get when you cross that big sticky sweet embrace of Apples & Bananas with the sweet plane fuel and hard candy from Jet Fuel Gelato.
Appearance: Modest In Size, Giant in Color
It is precisely this size and this shade of flower that I find most surprising when I actually play around with it before blazing up.
Very modest nug structure and size that would fit the “popcorn” size classification, although they are quite a bit denser than traditional popcorn nuglets.

Convenience is always lovely, and having buds this size makes for pretty easy dosing, as I’m not having to dissect a single mammoth nug for each cone or bowl’s worth.
Some people don’t like little buds, but in my experience, some pretty amazing things have come from some of the most unassuming flower. This Goofiez falls into that small yet impressive category.
Size aside, the color of this Goofiez is probably its most attractive visual feature. A mix of dark, dusty-looking blackish purples and lavenders, with a soft everglade green undertone and a dusting of cocoa powder, they look like an indulgent English high tea treat.
Sure, bigeth budeths will always have a certain amount of “wow factor,” but any time my eyes are drawn to lower features that exhibit depth of color, this Goofiez sure does.

While it was this mean-looking appearance (and the trust in the cultivator) that got the jar off the shelf and in front of my nose, it is always the olfactory that ultimately calls the shot on whether I end up opening my wallet.
Fortunately for this flower and my schnoz, the smell is where things really started to get interesting.
Smell: The Sweetest Softest Gelato Ever
My only Jokerz exposure thus far was a 2G rosin-infused blunt from Piff Stix, and I do not remember that smelling nearly as good as this recently harvested flower, but it’s hard to beat fresh whole flower.
White Runtz jumps right out at me with a big, hard candy note up front (thank you to the Original Z), perhaps amplified by the Apples & Bananas, itself a rather complex strain with legends such as Platinum Cookies, Granddaddy Purple, Blue Power, and Gelatti as members of its deep family tree.

Fruit by the Foot and vanilla tie in with the candy to dominate initial impressions, but there are other notes to discover at a distance and when dry-pulled.
That fruit snack sweetness rolls into a honey-dipped green apple before finishing with a bit of gassy rose perfume out back.
Good luck finding a sane person on earth who wouldn’t see this sweet, fruity bouquet as delightful to inhale. I’m tempted in for sniff after sniff like an anteater lost on a Miami nightclub bathroom floor.
If Gelato strains usually aren’t your thing, I suggest you give Goofiez a look. It’s got Gelato through and through; its lineage is still a surprisingly big, warm, and welcoming nose, and it is smoooooth.
Spice (aside from a touch of soft vanilla bean) is minimal, and the sweetness extends beyond Runtz to become more nuanced, a bit tarter, a bit more fermented, culminating in a bouquet fit for a perfumery.
Sensation: A High Fidelity Stone Down Memory Lane
If you care about the “is it more indica or sativa” question, then I’ll say that if you equate sativas to brighter, more energetic experiences and indicas with more sedate, relaxing experiences, then I’ll tell you Goofiez grooves along at a decidedly chill pace.
Writing this review has been a breeze, and it’s after 9PM on a Monday after a full day of spreadsheeting, so I wouldn’t call it sedative.
Goofiez is a strain that hits on everything, from appearance to smell and flavor to the ultra-luxury carpet ride that is the consumption experience.

There is nothing goofy about the modest appearance of this flower, nor is there anything goofy about its richly layered olfactory effects.
Nostalgic is the category this high evokes. It strikes me with wonder and lifts my mood to a more ponderously appreciative state.
If anything, I’d say that Goofiez leans more on the stay home and chill side of things than it does invite you out to socialize with the world.
It welcomes moonlight and summertime night breezes. It invites you to merge with your carpet.
This thus makes this weed well-suited for movie watching, UAP debates, and/or fading slowly off to sleep after a long day of work while Spotify plays Citypop classics on repeat.
All in all, I’m very thankful to have found this exceptional harvest of Goofiez and feel like I’ve effectively sampled in as good a form as I’m going to find, which turned out to be really fucking great.
Goofiez falls into the “dolce” category of cultivars that score 10s in all categories and which, most importantly, are easy and soft to smoke.
Whether you’re a fellow flavor chaser or you just like chill strains that border more on the blissful side of things, then peep some Goofiez flower if you see it on a menu from a respectable farm, you won’t regret it.
Thanks, Focus North Gardens, for cultivating this quarter-ounce. Superb work, as always. Thanks, Oregrown, for delivering quality flower month in and month out.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks to you, too!
