I tried that first but my herb was barely warm to the touch when I stuck my finger in it to see if it was heating. Only the very bottom of the infusion basin was warmed. There was zero discernable effects from the oil consumed with this method indicating activation didn’t occur. This is what led me to trying to activate it in the oil, since the oil would absorb more of the heat from the heating element as opposed to the dry herb hanging in air. Testing with my thermometer showed the machine simply was not heating up to the required temperatures for complete activation.

You’re supposed to activate it dry. Then add the oil for the infusion cycle.
